FIRST KOREAN PRIME MINISTER TO VISIT AUSTRIA
Prime Minister LEE Hae-chan was visiting Austria as part of his nine-day trip to Europe, following a visit to Hungary where he was speaking at the Progressive Governance Conference and Summit, a meeting of left-wing political leaders such as Tony Blair, Goeran Persson and Gerhard Schroeder.
LEE Hae-chan asked President Heinz Fischer to “visit North Korea if possible” and persuade the government in Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons development program. The Prime Minister also had talks with industry leaders during a lunch at the Palais Pallavicini hosted by the President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce Christoph Leitl, the major issues being technology co-operations and investments in the Republic of Korea.
Supplies of state-of-the-art, high-tech marine equipment to the largest shipbuilding country in the world, have been significantly contributing to an improved balance of trade between Austria and Korea.
Prime Minister LEE, accompanied by Vice Minister CHO Hwan-eik and a large Korean delegation, was scheduled to meet government officials in Berlin, before he went back to Korea on October 20, 2004.
